With less than two weeks until the July 30 return of “Rick and Morty” on Adult Swim, social media is already belching with excitement. Just when the fandom felt like it was reaching a fever pitch, this fresh four-and-a-half minute trailer got viewers leaping out of their seats — and realities.

For Adult Swim’s latest promo piece, “Rick and Morty Exquisite Corpse”, director Matt Taylor of Titmouse Animation brought together 22 unassociated animators and gave them free reign. "The only rule was to include Rick and Morty," Taylor tells "Creators". “When designs and boards started rolling in I was blown away by these diverse interpretations and pure representations of each artist.”

In true “Rick and Morty” fashion, the animators straddle the bizarre and the brilliant. After Morty drops a beaker of mysterious liquid, the two embark on a surrealist journey that crosses styles and stories; in one scene, it pays homage to “A Nightmare on Elm Street”, in another Rick births Morty out of a man’s… well, just watch it below for yourself.

High praise has come from high places. After the release of “Rick and Morty Exquisite Corpse”, series co-creator Dan Harmon put out a tweet saying: “Okay now what are we supposed to do in season 3 that lives up to THIS?”

The remaining 10 episodes of “Ricky and Morty” season three will reunite the eponymous pair —an alcoholic, antagonistic genius grandpa and his well-intentioned, painfully average grandson— for more adventures exploring the inter-dimensional and interpersonal with dark comedy. “Rick and Morty" is created is Toon Boom Harmony and Storyboard Pro 2D animation software.

According to “Creators”, the full list of animators who worked on “Rick and Morty Exquisite Corpse” includes Nigel Clark, Greg Sharp, Hombre McSteez, Simon Landrein, Andy Baker, Scorpion Dagger, Sick Animation, Jisu Kim, Daniel Britt, Max Winston, Ryan Quincy, Alex Schubert, Richard Mather, David Gemmill, Amy Lockhart, Genis Rigol Alzola, Sander Joon, Devin Flynn, Marco Imov, Shogo Tsuri, Bendik Kaltenborn, and Lale Westvind. The music in the trailer is Run the Jewels’ track "Thursday in the Danger Room (instrumental version)".
